The company was founded in 1883 by Emil Rathenau, who produced incandescent bulbs by buying a license from Thomas Edison. In 1994, the brand became part of the Electrolux Group. Despite this takeover, it was decided not to rename the company, and after almost a century and a half it continues to produce household devices and equipment under the AEG brand.
