Drill bit for metal GRAPHITE 8.5 mm cobalt cylindrical shank (57H048)
Drill bit for metal GRAPHITE 8.5 mm cobalt cylindrical shank (57H048)
GRAPHITE 8.5 mm cobalt drill bit with a cylindrical shank is designed for drilling holes in hard metals and metal alloys. The cobalt-enriched high-speed steel composition increases resistance to heat and wear, providing longer tool life during intensive metalworking. The cylindrical (straight) shank fits standard three-jaw chucks in hand drills and drill presses, making the bit suitable for general metal fabrication, repair and maintenance tasks.
The cobalt content improves thermal stability and hardness at elevated cutting temperatures, reducing the risk of premature blunting when drilling stainless steels and other tough alloys. Precision-ground flutes and point geometry ensure effective chip evacuation and consistent hole quality. The straight shank provides simple mounting in common drill chucks without the need for adapters.
Select an appropriate drilling speed and feed for the metal being worked; lower speeds are recommended for stainless and hardened steels to avoid overheating. Secure the workpiece with clamps or a vise and mark the drilling position. Fit the cylindrical shank into the drill chuck and tighten firmly. Use cutting fluid or coolant during drilling to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Withdraw periodically to clear chips if drilling deep holes.
For best results when drilling stainless steel or other heat-resistant alloys, use moderate cutting speeds, continuous coolant, and avoid excessive axial force. Inspect the drill bit for wear and sharpen or replace when cutting performance declines.
