The InLine® USB to Serial RS485 Converter with isolator connects computers with a USB-A interface to devices and networks based on the RS485 standard. Communication takes place via a virtual COM port and is suitable for applications in industrial automation, building automation, measurement and control technology, energy monitoring, and Modbus RTU systems.
The integrated galvanic isolation, with an isolation voltage of up to 2.5 kV, prevents a direct electrical connection between the USB and RS485 sides. This reduces potential differences, ground loops and electrical interference. This enhances operational reliability, particularly in demanding installations.
The Converter uses the FTDI FT232RNL chipset and supports baud rates from 300 to 512,000 b/s. Automatic direction switching in half-duplex mode is handled entirely by the hardware. No additional settings via RTS/CTS signals or software are required.
In addition, overvoltage, lightning and ESD protection functions, as well as a USB PTC fuse, ensure reliable operation. The integrated 120 Ω terminating resistor supports stable signal transmission over longer RS485 cables.
