## Summary description

The Pentax XW 5 eyepiece features a 2 cm focal length, a height of 127 mm, and a weight of 395 g. It is designed for high-quality astronomical observations, providing excellent clarity and brightness. The eyepiece is suitable for various telescopes and enhances the viewing experience with its ergonomic design.

## Long description

The Pentax XW 5 eyepiece has a 2 cm focal length, stands 127 mm tall and weighs 395 g. Engineered for astronomical and ground observation, this eyepiece delivers a wide apparent field of view and is compatible with a wide range of telescopes and Pentax spotting scopes. Optical construction uses high-refraction, low-dispersion lanthanum glass to provide bright, high-resolution images with minimal chromatic and spherical distortion. The housing meets JIS Class 4 weather-proof standards to improve durability in adverse conditions.
Advantages
The XW 5 produces a 70° apparent field of view combined with a short focal length for easier framing and more immersive views. Lanthanum glass elements increase image brightness and resolution while reducing dispersion, and the eyepiece’s weather-proof construction extends reliable use outdoors. Its ergonomic dimensions and weight balance convenience with robust build quality for extended observing sessions.
Suitable for
High-resolution planetary and lunar observation
Wide-field deep-sky viewing with short focal-length configurations
Field use with Pentax spotting scopes and compatible refractor or reflector telescopes
Outdoor observing where weather resistance is beneficial
Key specifications
Focal length: 2 cm
Apparent field of view: 70°
Optical glass: high-refraction, low-dispersion lanthanum glass
Weather protection: built to JIS Class 4
Height: 127 mm
Weight: 395 g
How to use
Install the eyepiece into the telescope’s focuser or diagonal according to the instrument’s instructions, ensuring the eyepiece is fully seated and secured. Use coarse then fine focus adjustments to obtain a sharp image; because of the short focal length, small focus changes may produce noticeable image shifts. For best results, pair the eyepiece with an appropriate focal reducer or barlow only if compatible with your optical system and when the resulting effective focal length is suitable for the intended target.
Usage recommendations
For optimal performance, allow the eyepiece and telescope optics to reach thermal equilibrium before observing, use gentle cleaning methods and proper caps when not in use, and select magnification appropriate to seeing conditions to preserve image contrast and sharpness.
