## Summary description

The RØDE DeadCat VMPR is an artificial fur windshield designed specifically for the VideoMic Pro microphone. Ideal for videographers and content creators looking to achieve professional sound quality in challenging weather conditions.

## Long description

The RØDE DeadCat VMPR Artificial Fur Windshield for VideoMic Pro Microphone in Black and Grey is a specialized accessory engineered to enhance outdoor audio capture. Designed specifically to fit the VideoMic Pro microphone with Rycote Lyre shockmounting manufactured after May 2015, this furry wind cover provides essential protection against disruptive wind interference. Finished in a practical black and grey color combination, it integrates seamlessly with your professional recording gear while delivering reliable performance in demanding weather conditions.
Advantages
This artificial fur windshield excels at reducing unwanted environmental noise, particularly wind interference, ensuring that your outdoor recordings remain clean and intelligible. The materials are specifically engineered to minimize wind noise while preserving acoustic transparency, meaning your voice or subject sound is not muffled or distorted. It serves as a vital tool for videographers and content creators who require broadcast-grade audio capture outdoors without compromising the high-frequency response of their microphone.
Suitable for
Outdoor videography and documentary filmmaking
Vlogging and content creation in windy environments
Field recording and on-location interviews
News gathering and outdoor broadcast journalism
When it may not be suitable
This windshield is not designed for indoor use where wind noise is absent, as it is unnecessary for controlled studio environments. Furthermore, it is not compatible with older VideoMic Pro models utilizing traditional rubber band suspension systems, requiring the specific Rycote Lyre shockmounting version for a proper fit.
Key specifications
Microphone compatibility: VideoMic Pro with Rycote Lyre shockmounting (after May 2015)
Material: Artificial fur
Product color: Black and Grey
Primary function: Wind noise reduction and acoustic transparency
How to use
To use the windshield, slip the artificial fur cover over the foam windscreen of your compatible VideoMic Pro microphone. Ensure the opening is fully aligned and pulled down securely over the base of the microphone to prevent any gaps where air could enter. Adjust the fur so it does not block the microphone capsule directly while providing full exterior coverage. When recording outdoors, position the microphone and its cover facing the primary sound source while keeping the furry surface oriented toward any prevailing wind direction for optimal attenuation.
What to consider before purchase
Verify your microphone model and suspension type to ensure compatibility
Confirm whether your VideoMic Pro features the Rycote Lyre shockmount
Assess your primary recording environments to determine the need for wind protection
Usage recommendations
Store the artificial fur windshield in a clean, dry place when not in use. If the fur becomes flattened or damp during outdoor shoots, allow it to air dry naturally and gently brush it to restore its acoustic properties and fluffy texture.
