## Long description

The SmallRig 5169 Attachable Variable ND Filter ND64-ND400 6-9 Stop 67mm is an optical accessory designed to help photographers and videographers manage exposure in bright lighting conditions. This adjustable neutral density filter offers a light reduction range from ND64 to ND400, delivering 6 to 9 stops of exposure control. By controlling the amount of light entering the camera lens, users can maintain wider apertures or slower shutter speeds without affecting overall color accuracy.
Advantages
This variable ND filter provides flexible exposure control across a continuous 6 to 9 stop range, allowing creators to adapt quickly to changing light without swapping multiple fixed filters. The optical construction is engineered to preserve color neutrality, ensuring that images and video footage maintain accurate tones. The standard 67mm diameter allows for straightforward mounting on compatible lenses, making it a practical addition to any mobile or traditional camera kit where lighting conditions fluctuate frequently.
Suitable for
Shooting long exposure photography in daylight
Recording video outdoors in bright sunlight
Maintaining wide apertures for shallow depth of field in bright environments
Controlling shutter speed for natural motion blur in video
When it may not be suitable
This filter may not be suitable for ultra-wide-angle lenses, as variable neutral density filters can sometimes introduce an X-pattern or uneven vignetting at extreme ends of their adjustment range. It is also not designed for lenses with filter thread sizes other than 67mm unless appropriate step-up or step-down adapter rings are used.
Key specifications
Filter type: Variable neutral density (VND)
Density range: ND64 to ND400
Exposure control: 6 to 9 stops
Diameter: 67mm
How to use
Attach the filter securely to the front thread of a compatible 67mm camera lens by rotating it clockwise until firmly seated. Once mounted, rotate the outer ring of the filter to adjust the light reduction level between ND64 and ND400 according to the lighting requirements of the scene. Monitor the exposure through the camera viewfinder or screen and adjust camera settings if necessary before capturing images or recording video.
What to consider before purchase
Verify that your camera lens has a 67mm filter thread diameter or that you have the correct adapter rings
Assess your typical shooting environments to ensure a 6 to 9 stop range meets your lighting control needs
Consider whether your shooting style requires a variable ND filter or if fixed-stop filters are better suited for your optical requirements
Store the filter in a protective case when not in use and clean the optical surfaces gently using a microfiber cloth designed for camera optics to maintain optimal performance.
