## Summary description

Prime ultra-wide Laowa 7.5mm f/2 for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) system by Venus Optics. Optical construction: 13 elements in 9 groups; closest focusing distance 0.12 m. Compact silver design with 5 cm diameter and 55 mm length, 46 mm front filter thread. Designed for Panasonic MFT cameras; suited for landscape, architecture, interiors and creative close-focus wide-angle shots.

## Long description

The Laowa 7.5mm f/2 MFT by Venus Optics is an ultra-wide prime lens designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras. As the widest rectilinear f/2 lens available for the MFT system, it provides a 110° field of view, equivalent to about 15mm on a full-frame sensor. The lens uses a 13-element, 9-group optical formula with two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to control distortion and chromatic aberration. Its compact metal barrel in silver measures approximately 55 mm in length with a small diameter and weighs under 200 g for the standard version, and a lighter variant is offered for aerial use. The front accepts 46 mm screw-in filters and the lens focuses down to 0.12 m for close wide-angle shots.
Advantages
The Laowa 7.5mm f/2 MFT combines an ultra-fast f/2 aperture with an exceptionally wide rectilinear field of view, allowing effective low-light and astro-photography performance while maintaining straight lines and controlled distortion. The optical design with aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements improves sharpness and reduces chromatic aberration across the frame. Its compact, lightweight metal construction makes it suitable for handheld, gimbal and drone setups where size and weight are critical. A 46 mm front filter thread enables the use of screw-in creative and exposure-control filters.
Suitable for
Landscape and cityscape photography requiring an expansive field of view
Architecture and interiors where rectilinear correction and distortion control are important
Astro-photography and low-light scenes benefiting from an f/2 aperture
Vlogging, travel and documentary video using lightweight MFT cameras and gimbals
Aerial photography with the lightweight version on drones and stabilizers
Key specifications
Focal length: 7.5 mm (ultra-wide, rectilinear)
Maximum aperture: f/2
Optical construction: 13 elements in 9 groups, includes aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements
Angle of view: approximately 110° (Micro Four Thirds format)
Minimum focus distance: 0.12 m
Filter thread: 46 mm (front screw-in)
Construction: metal barrel, available in silver; standard and lightweight versions (weight reduced for lightweight version)
How to use
Mount the lens on a Micro Four Thirds camera body and set the camera to the desired exposure mode. Use the wide f/2 aperture for low-light and astro-photography to maximise light gathering; stop down as needed to increase depth of field for landscapes and architecture. For close wide-angle shots, focus down to the minimum focus distance of 0.12 m to emphasise foreground subjects while retaining a broad background. When using the lightweight version on drones or gimbals, note that the lens has no electronic connections for aperture or focus control and manual adjustments are required.
Usage recommendations
To achieve the best optical performance, use the lens stopped down one to two stops from maximum aperture for increased corner sharpness and reduced vignetting on landscape and architectural shots. Employ the 46 mm front filter thread for neutral density or graduated filters when controlling exposure in bright conditions. When shooting astro or low-light scenes, use a stable tripod or a gimbal and manual focus to set the celestial or distant subject precisely.
