## Summary description

Laowa 7.5mm f/2 by Venus Optics is an ultra-wide-angle prime lens for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) systems. It features a 13-element/9-group optical construction, f/2 maximum aperture, 0.12 m closest focusing distance and 46 mm front filter size. Designed for Panasonic MFT cameras, it suits landscape, architecture and creative close-focus wide-angle photography.

## Long description

The Venus Optics Laowa 7.5mm f/2 for Micro Four Thirds is an ultra-wide-angle prime lens offering a rectilinear 110° field of view, equivalent to a 15mm lens on 35mm sensors. Designed for Micro Four Thirds systems, this lens combines a bright f/2 maximum aperture with a compact, lightweight metal construction and an optical formula of 13 elements in 9 groups. With a minimum focus distance of 0.12 m and a 46 mm front filter thread, the lens is suitable for wide landscapes, architecture, night sky photography and creative close-focus wide-angle shots.
Advantages
The Laowa 7.5mm f/2 provides an ultra-wide rectilinear perspective while maintaining strong control of distortion and aberrations thanks to two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements in its optical design. Its fast f/2 aperture facilitates low-light and astro-photography, while the close focusing distance enables creative compositions near the subject. The lens is exceptionally compact and light — under 200 g for the standard version and available in a lighter version for aerial use — making it easy to carry and mount on gimbals or drones where weight and size matter. A 46 mm screw-in filter thread on the front allows use of filters for exposure and creative control.
Suitable for
Landscape photography requiring very wide coverage
Architectural and interior photography where rectilinear rendering is needed
Astro-photography and low-light wide-angle shooting
Vlogging, travel and lifestyle video on gimbals or compact cameras
Aerial photography with the lightweight version for drones
Key specifications
Focal length equivalence on 35mm: approx. 15 mm
Maximum aperture: f/2
Optical construction: 13 elements in 9 groups (includes aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements)
Minimum focusing distance: 0.12 m
Angle of view: approximately 110°
Front filter thread: 46 mm (screw-in)
Construction: metal body; available in standard and lightweight versions
Weight: under 200 g for standard version; lighter version approx. 150 g (lightweight variant for aerial use)
How to use
Attach the Laowa 7.5mm f/2 to a compatible Micro Four Thirds camera body, ensuring the lens mount is aligned and locked. Use the f/2 aperture for low-light scenes or astro-photography to capture more light and achieve fast shutter speeds; stop down as needed to increase depth of field for landscapes or architectural work. For close-focus creative wide-angle shots, move closer to the subject while minding perspective exaggeration. When using filters, screw a 46 mm filter onto the front thread; allow for possible vignetting with certain filters when shooting at extreme angles. If using the lightweight version on drones or gimbals, note there is no electronic control of aperture or focus from the aircraft or stabilizer and adjust settings manually on the camera or lens.
Usage recommendations
For best results in astro-photography and low-light shooting, combine the lens's f/2 aperture with higher ISO settings and stable support such as a tripod. When shooting architecture or interiors, use smaller apertures (f/5.6–f/11) to maximise edge-to-edge sharpness and minimise aberrations. For aerial and gimbal work choose the lightweight variant to reduce payload and balance issues, and pre-set focus if your workflow requires it since electronic control may be unavailable on some platforms.
