## Long description

Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D by Venus Optics is an ultra-wide manual-focus prime lens designed for MILC and SLR mirrorless systems. The optical construction uses 15 elements in 10 groups and a Zero‑D design to minimise distortion while delivering an expansive field of view — up to 113° on full-frame-equivalent mounts and about 100° on Micro Four Thirds. The lens features a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture, a very short closest focusing distance of 0.12 m, a compact length of approximately 60 mm and a lightweight body. A 49 mm filter thread and included petal-shaped lens hood support practical outdoor and architectural use. Available mounts include Fuji X, Sony E, Canon EF-M, DJI DL and MFT; note that the lens is not full-frame and the MFT and DJI DL mounts extend compatibility to certain drone and Micro Four Thirds camera systems.
Advantages
The Zero‑D optical design minimises rectilinear distortion, making the lens suitable for architecture and interiors where straight lines must be preserved. Two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved corner-to-corner sharpness and reduced colour fringing. The bright f/2.8 aperture and a close focusing distance allow creative wide-angle perspectives and easier shooting in low light. The small size and light weight make this lens easy to carry, mount on gimbals, or use on drone platforms with the DJI DL mount.
Suitable for
Architectural and interior photography where distortion control is critical
Landscape and cityscape photography with expansive field of view
Aerial videography and photography on compatible drone systems (DJI DL mount)
Street and travel photography requiring a compact ultra-wide prime
Creative close-up wide-angle shots, taking advantage of 0.12 m close focus
Key specifications
Focal length: 9 mm (ultra-wide prime)
Maximum aperture: f/2.8
Optical construction: 15 elements in 10 groups
Angle of view: up to 113° (system-dependent; about 100° on MFT)
Closest focusing distance: 0.12 m
Maximum magnification: 7.5×
Filter thread diameter: 49 mm
Physical diameter: 53 mm; approximate length: 60 mm
Included accessory: petal-shaped lens hood
Mount options: Fuji X, Sony E, Canon EF-M, DJI DL, MFT
How to use
Attach the lens to a compatible MILC or SLR mirrorless body using the correct mount option. Focus is manual; use the focus ring to set precise focus and take advantage of the 0.12 m closest focusing distance for dramatic wide-angle close-ups. Set aperture on-camera or via the camera’s aperture control if mount supports it; use f/2.8 for low-light or shallow depth-of-field effects and stop down as needed for maximum sharpness across the frame. The petal-shaped hood helps reduce flare when shooting toward bright light sources.
Usage recommendations
For architectural and interior work, keep the camera level and rely on the Zero‑D design to reduce post-processing correction for straight lines. When using on drones or gimbals, balance and check centre of gravity; the lens’s compact weight is suitable for many stabilised rigs. To minimise chromatic aberration and maximise corner sharpness, avoid extreme wide-open apertures for critical landscape frames and stop down incrementally as needed.
