The ICY BOX IB-1817Ma-C31 Silver is an aluminium M.2 SSD enclosure that supports PCI Express 3.0 NVMe cards in lengths 30, 42, 60 and 80 mm. It connects via USB Type-C (USB 3.2 Gen 2 / 3.1 Gen 2) and delivers a host-side data rate of up to 10 Gbit/s (around 1000 MB/s), making it suitable for fast external storage, drive cloning and running portable operating systems. The enclosure includes a patented cooling plate that transfers SSD waste heat to the housing to avoid thermal throttling and maintain sustained transfer speeds.
The aluminium housing and patented cooling plate provide effective heat dissipation to keep the M.2 SSD cool under prolonged load, helping the drive maintain peak transfer rates. The enclosure is compatible with a wide range of M.2 lengths and is operating-system independent, enabling plug-and-play use on different systems. A mechanical write-protect switch allows temporarily preventing changes to stored data for added data security.
Open the enclosure, insert a compatible M.2 NVMe SSD of the supported length and secure it with the supplied screw. Connect the enclosure to your computer using the included USB Type-C cable. The device is operating-system independent and should be recognised automatically; if necessary, initialise or format the SSD in your OS disk management tool. Use the small supplied tool to move the write-protect switch to the protected position when you want to prevent write access, and move it back to allow normal read/write operations.
For sustained high-speed transfers, ensure good airflow around the aluminium housing so the patented cooling plate can dissipate heat effectively. Use the write-protect switch when transporting sensitive data or when performing read-only diagnostics to avoid accidental writes.
