The StarTech.com AV transmitter & receiver ST12MHDLAN4K is an HDMI over IP extender kit that transmits Ultra HD 4K video (up to 3840 x 2160 at 30Hz) over Cat5e/Cat6 networks. The kit includes a transmitter and a receiver to extend a single HDMI source to remote displays using a local Gigabit Ethernet network or as a point-to-point link over Cat5/Cat6 cabling up to 100 m. The receiver supports RS-232 extension and a separate 3.5 mm audio source input, and the kit is compatible with lower resolutions such as 1080p and 720p.

How to use

Connect the HDMI source to the transmitter’s HDMI input and join the transmitter and receiver via your LAN using Cat5e/Cat6 cabling. For point-to-multipoint setups, connect both transmitter(s) and receiver(s) to a Gigabit Ethernet switch with IGMP enabled; the included Video Control app (iOS/Android) provides automatic device discovery and lets you assign sources to displays or configure a video wall. For point-to-point use, connect transmitter and receiver directly with a Cat5/Cat6 cable up to 100 m. Configure audio selection on the receiver to use either the native HDMI audio or the separate 3.5 mm audio source as needed.

Usage recommendations

For reliable multi-source or multi-receiver performance, use a managed Gigabit switch with IGMP enabled and enable jumbo frames on the network to distribute 4K video. Non-managed switches may limit performance and affect other network devices.
