Smart card reader ACS APG8201-B2 USB 2.0 indoor, 1.5 m cable, black
ACS APG8201-B2 is an indoor smart card reader with a USB 2.0 interface designed for connection to PCs and terminals. The unit includes an integrated 1.5 m cable and a compact black housing with a lightweight construction (98 g). It supports contact smart cards and provides an LCD display and keypad for on-device PIN entry and interaction, making it suitable for secure authentication, eID operations, access control and payment terminal integration where a USB-connected reader is required.
The reader provides Secure PIN Entry (SPE) through its built-in keypad and LCD, reducing exposure of PINs to host-based threats such as malware or USB sniffers. Its USB 2.0 connection and bus-powered design remove the need for an external power supply, simplifying installation. The compact form factor and integrated cable ensure a tidy setup on desks or terminal enclosures while maintaining portability and easy relocation when needed.
Connect the ACS APG8201-B2 to a computer or terminal using the integrated 1.5 m USB cable; the reader draws power from the host USB port. Insert a contact smart card into the reader according to the card orientation marked on the device. When a PIN is required, use the on-device numeric keypad and confirm entries on the built-in LCD. Follow software prompts from the host application or middleware for authentication, signing or transaction approval. Ensure the host system has any required drivers or middleware installed if not automatically provided by the operating system.
Handle the device in dry indoor environments; avoid exposing the reader to moisture or extreme temperatures. Use trusted host systems and keep middleware or drivers up to date. For secure PIN entry, instruct users to enter PINs directly on the device keypad and verify transaction details displayed on the host application where applicable.
