Road rim Alexrims AT490 700×28 with drilled holes, CNC machined sidewall, black
Alexrims AT490 700×28 is a road bicycle rim engineered for 28 mm tyre width and everyday road use. The rim has drilled spoke holes for conventional spoke lacing and a CNC-machined braking sidewall that provides a consistent, uniform surface for rim brake pads. Finished in black, this rim is suited for wheel builds, repairs and replacements where a reliable, serviceable aluminium rim is required.
The drilled hole pattern simplifies spoke installation and tensioning for standard road spokes. A CNC-machined sidewall delivers an even braking surface for predictable stopping performance and reduced pad wear. The rim’s construction balances lightweight characteristics with sufficient stiffness for training and commuting, while the black finish resists visible dirt and integrates visually with most wheel components.
Install the rim on a compatible hub using appropriately sized road spokes and nipples, following correct spoke length calculations and lacing patterns. True and tension the wheel using a truing stand or by careful on-bike adjustments until spokes achieve even tension and the rim runs straight. Mount a 28 mm tyre and tube or tubeless tyre (if rim and tyre specifications permit) and check tyre fit and pressure before riding. Verify that rim brake pads are aligned with the CNC-machined sidewall and adjust pad position and cable tension for even contact and effective braking.
For reliable performance, use spokes and nipples rated for road wheel loads, periodically check spoke tension and rim trueness, and ensure brake pads are compatible with machined aluminium sidewalls. If converting to tubeless, confirm rim compatibility and follow manufacturer instructions for sealing and tyre mounting.
