RME Fireface UFX II
The RME Fireface UFX II is a rackmount USB audio interface designed for professional recording, mixing and monitoring applications. It combines 12 analog inputs/outputs, ADAT, AES and S/PDIF digital connectivity, and support for up to 60 audio channels (30 in / 30 out) with sampling rates up to 192 kHz. Housed in a 19" 1U chassis with a grey finish, the unit includes a BNC word clock connector and robust power handling (AC 100–240 V, typical consumption 25 W). The Fireface UFX II integrates premium AD/DA conversion, low-noise analog circuitry and high-power headphone outputs for transparent audio transfer between outboard sources and a computer.
The Fireface UFX II delivers low-latency USB performance and flexible routing through RME’s TotalMix FX mixing engine. Premium converter stages and optimized analog I/O circuits provide improved signal-to-noise ratio and low distortion, while the PAD-free mic preamp design offers a wide gain range and high maximum input level for reliable microphone and line-level recording. Dual high-power headphone outputs with low output impedance ensure consistent monitoring across a variety of headphones. Onboard Direct USB Recording (DURec) lets you record directly to a USB drive without a computer, and broad digital connectivity (ADAT, AES, S/PDIF) enables easy integration into existing studio setups.
Install the Fireface UFX II in a standard 19" rack or place it on a stable surface and connect it to your computer via USB. Use analog inputs for microphones and line sources, and route additional channels via ADAT or AES/S/PDIF as required. Configure sampling rate and clocking using the front-panel controls and the BNC word clock connector when integrating external master clocks. Use TotalMix FX software to create custom monitoring mixes, apply internal DSP effects and manage low-latency routing between inputs, outputs and DAW channels. For direct field or backup recording, insert a compatible USB drive into the front panel DURec port and select recording options via the unit’s menu or software control.
For reliable clocking and the cleanest audio, use a dedicated word clock when synchronizing multiple digital devices. Select balanced connections for line-level I/O to minimize noise and maintain optimal signal integrity. When recording loud sources, take advantage of the PAD-free mic circuit’s high input level and set gain conservatively to avoid clipping. Use TotalMix FX to create separate monitor mixes for performers and to implement zero-latency monitoring during tracking.
