The Axagon EEM2-SBC is an aluminum external SSD enclosure for SATA M.2 drives that connects via a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. It supports single- and double-sided M.2 SATA SSDs in sizes 2242, 2260 and 2280, and includes a reversible USB-C to USB-A cable for broad compatibility. The metal housing with a brushed black finish provides passive cooling and a compact form factor for creating a fast external drive usable with computers, notebooks, smartphones and tablets.

Advantages

The enclosure delivers up to 10 Gbit/s transfer speed over USB 3.2 Gen 2 and is backward compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0. It supports UASP for improved transfer performance, TRIM to help maintain SSD performance over time, and reads S.M.A.R.T. data for drive health monitoring. Screwless assembly allows quick installation and replacement of M.2 SSDs, and the aluminum body improves heat dissipation during operation.

How to use

Open the screwless enclosure, insert a compatible SATA M.2 SSD (align to the B or B+M key), secure the module at the correct length (2242 / 2260 / 2280) with the supplied mounting material, then close the enclosure. Connect the enclosure to a host using the supplied USB-C to USB-A cable or a USB-C cable to a device with a USB-C port. The device is plug-and-play on supported operating systems; the blue LED indicates power and flashes during data transfer.

Usage recommendations

For optimal performance, use an M.2 SATA SSD with proven sequential speeds and enable UASP on hosts that support it. Ensure the host USB port supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 for maximum throughput; otherwise speeds will be limited by the host port. Allow air circulation around the aluminum housing during sustained transfers to aid cooling.
