Baader ND Filter 1.8 1.25-inch (OD=1.8, T=2%)

The Baader ND Filter 1.8 is a precision-engineered neutral density filter designed for 1.25-inch eyepieces, offering an optical density of 1.8 and a light transmission of 2%. This high-quality optical accessory is specifically crafted for astronomical observations, providing a significant reduction in the brightness of celestial objects. By effectively dimming the intense light from the Moon and bright planets, it enables observers to study surface details with greater comfort and clarity while maintaining excellent image contrast and color neutrality.

Advantages

This filter excels by providing a uniform reduction of light across the entire visible spectrum, ensuring that the natural colors of observed objects remain unaltered. Its high-quality optical glass construction minimizes scatter and maintains sharp image definition, which is essential for detailed planetary and lunar studies. The filter is designed to fit standard 1.25-inch eyepiece barrels, making it a versatile addition to any amateur astronomer's toolkit. By lowering the glare, it helps the human eye adapt better to the observation, revealing subtle features that would otherwise be washed out by excessive brightness.

Suitable for

• Observing the Moon during its bright phases
• Viewing bright planets such as Venus, Jupiter, and Mars
• Reducing glare in high-magnification planetary observations
• Balancing brightness in telescopes with large apertures

This filter may not be suitable for deep-sky observations of faint objects like nebulae or galaxies, as its primary function is to reduce light transmission, which would make these already dim targets nearly invisible. It is also not intended for solar observation and should never be used to view the Sun without appropriate, dedicated solar safety equipment.

Key specifications

• Optical density: 1.8
• Light transmission: 2%
• Size: 1.25-inch standard thread
• Material: High-quality optical glass
• Compatibility: Standard 1.25-inch telescope eyepieces

How to use

To use the Baader ND Filter 1.8, simply screw the filter into the threaded barrel of your 1.25-inch eyepiece. Ensure the threads are aligned correctly to avoid cross-threading. Once securely attached, insert the eyepiece into your telescope's focuser as usual. You can then proceed with your observation, noting the immediate reduction in brightness and the improved comfort for your eye.

What to consider before purchase

• Verify that your telescope eyepieces have standard 1.25-inch filter threads.
• Ensure your telescope aperture is appropriate for the light reduction provided by a 2% transmission filter.
• Confirm that this filter is intended for lunar or planetary use, not for solar or deep-sky imaging.

Usage recommendations

Always handle the filter by its edges to avoid leaving fingerprints on the optical surfaces. If cleaning is necessary, use only professional-grade optical cleaning solutions and microfiber cloths to prevent scratching the delicate coatings.
