The Bixolon XD5-40d is a 4-inch (118 mm) direct thermal desktop label and barcode printer designed for mid-level labelling tasks in manufacturing, transport & logistics, retail and healthcare. The compact clamshell body supports 203 dpi resolution, print speeds up to 178 mm/s (7 ips) and expanded memory (up to 256 MB SDRAM and 256 MB Flash). The printer accepts media rolls up to 127 mm diameter, is available with optional peeler, auto cutter and external paper supply, and ships with a two-year warranty.

Advantages

The XD5-40d provides fast data processing and stable print performance for a variety of label formats, with Smart Media Detection™ for automatic identification of gap, black mark, continuous or notch media. Standard connectivity includes dual USB 2.0 and USB Host, with optional Dual-WLAN, Dual-Bluetooth, Serial or Ethernet interfaces. The USB Host port supports Twin Function™ to duplicate settings and data between printers. The printer is compatible with common programming languages (SLCS™, BPL-Z™, BPL-E™) and is supported by BIXOLON firmware and software tools such as XPM™ web-based profile management, Label Artist-II™ and BarTender®.

How to use

Open the clamshell case to load label media and set the adjustable paper guide and holder to the label width. Choose the required media type and allow the Smart Media Detection™ to identify gap, black mark, continuous or notch formats. Connect the printer to a host via USB, Ethernet or optional wireless interface, install the appropriate driver and programming language (SLCS™, BPL-Z™ or BPL-E™) and configure settings using XPM™ or included software. For mass deployment, use the USB Host Twin Function™ to copy settings and data to other XD5 printers.

Usage recommendations

Use genuine BIXOLON media sized within the specified maximum print width and roll diameter for reliable printing. Install optional peeler or cutter when application requirements demand automatic label separation. Regularly update firmware and drivers and verify network settings when using Ethernet or wireless options.
