Broadcom CVPM02 Cache Protection Module for MegaRAID 9361-16i and 9380-8i8e
The Broadcom CVPM02 Cache Protection Module is a specialized hardware component engineered to safeguard data integrity for enterprise-grade RAID controllers. By providing a reliable power backup solution, this module ensures that data residing in the controller's cache is preserved during unexpected power outages or system failures. It utilizes advanced super-capacitor technology to maintain power to critical components, allowing the controller to transfer cached data into non-volatile NAND flash storage, thereby preventing potential data loss and ensuring business continuity.
This module offers significant operational benefits by replacing traditional Lithium-ION battery backup units with a high-performance super-capacitor. This design choice eliminates the need for periodic battery replacement and maintenance, which reduces the total cost of ownership over the lifespan of the server hardware. Furthermore, the use of super-capacitors provides a more environmentally friendly solution while maintaining optimal RAID performance and reliability in demanding storage environments.
This module is not suitable for RAID controllers outside of the specified Broadcom MegaRAID 9361-16i and 9380-8i8e series. It is also not intended for use in consumer-grade desktop systems that do not utilize compatible enterprise RAID hardware.
Installation of the CVPM02 module should be performed while the server is powered down and disconnected from the electrical supply. The module connects directly to the designated port on the compatible RAID controller card. Once physically installed and secured, the RAID controller will automatically detect the module during the next system boot. No complex software configuration is typically required, as the controller manages the cache protection process autonomously.
For optimal performance and reliability, ensure that the RAID controller firmware is updated to the latest version recommended by the manufacturer before installing the cache protection module.
