Catit Cat Scratcher Hipopotam cardboard, model CH-5039, corrugated scratching toy for cats

Catit Cat Scratcher Hipopotam cardboard (model CH-5039) is a corrugated cat scratcher shaped like a hippo, designed to provide a stable surface for natural scratching behaviour and to help protect furniture. The unit is made from replaceable corrugated cardboard panels and measures approximately 44 x 18.5 x 18.5 cm, offering a compact footprint suitable for living rooms, bedrooms or other indoor areas where cats typically play and groom their claws.

Advantages

The scratcher uses dense corrugated cardboard to deliver a textured surface that resists rapid wear while allowing claws to grip and remove loose outer sheaths. Its playful hippo shape encourages interaction and exploration, and the replaceable construction extends usable life and reduces waste compared with single-piece toys. The compact dimensions and low profile make it easy to position on the floor or beside furniture to redirect scratching to an appropriate target.

Suitable for

• Indoor cats that need a dedicated scratching surface
• Kittens learning to use scratching posts and toys
• Owners who want to protect sofas, carpets and wooden furniture from claw marks
• Small living spaces where a compact scratcher is preferred

When it may not be suitable

This cardboard scratcher is not intended for aggressive climbers or very large, heavy cats that might require sturdier vertical posts or reinforced structures. It is designed primarily as a horizontal scratching surface and may not satisfy cats that prefer tall, upright posts for full-body stretch and scent marking. Because it is made of cardboard, it will gradually wear and require replacement parts over time.

Key specifications

• Material: corrugated cardboard (replaceable panels)
• Shape: hippo-inspired horizontal scratcher
• Approximate dimensions: 44 x 18.5 x 18.5 cm
• Intended placement: floor / low-profile surface
• Suitable for: kittens to adult cats of average size

How to use

Place the Catit Hipopotam scratcher on a stable, level area where your cat already spends time or near items the cat tends to scratch. Encourage initial use by rubbing a small amount of catnip or placing a favourite toy on the surface. Allow the cat to investigate at its own pace; regular access will promote use and help maintain claw health. Check the cardboard regularly and replace the corrugated panels when they become excessively worn to keep the surface effective.

What to consider before purchase

• Whether your cat prefers horizontal scratching surfaces rather than vertical posts
• Available floor space and the scratcher’s dimensions (approx. 44 x 18.5 x 18.5 cm)
• How often you are willing to replace cardboard inserts as they wear
• Compatibility with your cat’s size and activity level

Usage recommendations

For best results, position the scratcher near resting or play areas, rotate placement if interest falls, and combine with toys or catnip to encourage regular use. Replace corrugated panels once the texture is significantly flattened to maintain scratching satisfaction and help protect furniture.
