Catadioptric Telescope Celestron NexStar Evolution 6 354x Black Silver
The Celestron NexStar Evolution 6 354x Black Silver is a catadioptric Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope designed for visual observing and introductory astroimaging. It combines a 6-inch aperture optical tube with StarBright XLT coatings, an integrated rechargeable battery, and built-in WiFi for control from smartphones and tablets. The package includes a sturdy steel tripod, a StarPointer finderscope, two 1.25” Plossl eyepieces, a 1.25” star diagonal, a classic hand controller, and an AC adapter.
The integrated WiFi module allows wireless control using the Celestron mobile app, enabling planetary and deep-sky slewing and SkyAlign alignment from a compatible device. A built-in lithium-iron phosphate battery provides extended observing sessions without external power, and a USB charge port can top up mobile devices during use. The all-metal tripod with metal accessory tray and ergonomic handles simplifies setup and transport while manual clutches on altitude and azimuth permit safe manual pointing when the telescope is powered off. StarBright XLT optical coatings and a compact 406 mm tube length combine portability with quality optical performance.
Set the tripod at a stable, level location and attach the optical tube to the fork mount using the ergonomic handles for safe placement. Power on the telescope and either connect your smartphone or tablet to the NexStar Evolution’s built-in WiFi network or use the included hand controller. Launch the Celestron mobile app and follow the SkyAlign procedure to align the telescope to the night sky; the planetarium interface will display visible objects and allow direct slewing. For manual pointing, disengage the altitude or azimuth clutches, reposition the optical tube, then re-engage. To perform basic astroimaging, attach a DSLR to the visual back and use short exposures while the mount guides; add additional accessories as your workflow develops.
For best observing results, perform alignment from a location with a clear view of the horizon and minimal light pollution. Start with low- to medium-power eyepieces to locate targets, then increase magnification for planetary detail. When imaging, ensure firm tripod setup and use the telescope’s tracking features; consider adding a wedge and upgraded tripod if you plan longer exposure astrophotography in the future.
