Surge Protector Delta OPRS-1 for Symmetrical RS-485 Line — OPRS-1
Delta OPRS-1 is a surge protector designed specifically for symmetrical RS-485 communication lines. It protects data interfaces against transient overvoltages and voltage spikes that can occur in industrial and building automation environments. The device is compact and intended for installation in control panels or close to field devices to protect modems, converters and other RS-485 equipment without affecting normal signal transmission.
The surge protector provides fast response to transient events and clamps harmful voltages to safe levels to reduce the risk of equipment failure. Its design preserves differential signal integrity on RS-485 pairs while offering reliable protection in electrically noisy environments. The unit is suitable for mounting in electrical enclosures or near terminal connections, simplifying integration into existing installations.
Install the surge protector in series with the RS-485 pair at the point of entry to the protected equipment or inside the control panel. Connect the differential A and B conductors to the corresponding input and output terminals of the device, ensuring secure termination. If applicable, connect the protector’s reference/ground terminal according to the system grounding practice to ensure proper diversion of surge currents. Verify that normal communication is maintained after installation and that wiring follows manufacturer and system grounding recommendations.
Place surge protection devices at both ends of long RS-485 runs or at locations where external cables enter an installation. Periodically inspect the protector and associated wiring after major electrical events. Ensure grounding and bonding practices are correct to maximize protection effectiveness while maintaining reliable RS-485 communication.
