Heating Cable DEVI MA ICE-20W/M 80W 4M – self-regulating anti-icing cable

DEVI MA ICE-20W/M is a self-regulating anti-icing heating cable with a nominal output of 20 W per metre and a total power of 80 W across 4 m. It is designed to prevent ice and snow accumulation on gutters, downpipes, roofs and outdoor drains, and to provide frost protection for exposed plumbing and outdoor installations. The cable increases heat output as ambient temperature falls and reduces output as temperature rises, which improves energy efficiency compared with constant-power heating elements.

Advantages

The self-regulating design automatically adjusts heat output according to surrounding temperature, reducing the risk of overheating and lowering energy consumption. Its compact, flexible construction allows installation along gutters, in downpipes, on roof valleys and inside drainage channels. The cable is suitable for outdoor use and provides reliable frost protection for pipes and roof edges when installed according to manufacturer guidelines.

Suitable for

• Preventing ice dams and snow accumulation on roofs and roof valleys
• Keeping gutters and downpipes free of ice and blockages
• Protecting outdoor drains and channels from freezing
• Frost protection for exposed water pipes and plumbing runs

When it may not be suitable

This cable is intended for anti-icing and frost protection tasks and is not a primary heat source for internal spaces. It is not suitable where constant surface temperatures significantly above ambient are required or where local regulations restrict the use of electrical heating elements. For installation in concealed or hazardous locations, or where higher power output is needed, select a different product specified for those conditions.

Key specifications

• Type: self-regulating heating cable
• Nominal linear output: 20 W/m (at reference conditions)
• Total length: 4 m
• Total power: 80 W
• Primary use: outdoor anti-icing and frost protection
• Installation locations: gutters, downpipes, roof valleys, drains, exposed pipes

How to use

Install the cable along the area to be protected following the manufacturer’s installation guide and local electrical codes. Secure the cable with appropriate clips or fixing tape recommended for outdoor heating cables, and avoid sharp bends or kinks. Connect the cable to a suitably rated power supply and, where required, to a compatible thermostat, controller or moisture/temperature sensor to automate operation. Ensure all electrical connections and end seals are made in accordance with safety standards and by a qualified electrician.

What to consider before purchase

• Measure the length of gutters, downpipes or pipe runs to confirm 4 m is sufficient or if multiple cables are needed
• Check local electrical regulations and requirements for outdoor heating cable installation
• Confirm compatibility with recommended controllers or sensors if automated operation is desired
• Ensure a qualified electrician will perform final electrical connections and sealing

Usage recommendations

For effective anti-icing, place the cable in gutters along the inner edge and inside downpipes where ice commonly forms. Use a controller or sensor that activates the cable at low temperatures or when moisture is detected to optimize energy use. Regularly inspect outdoor fixings and seals before the cold season and after severe weather.
