Product information

Description

The Edifier MR5 is a stereo portable speaker system engineered for accurate sound reproduction in near-field and mid-field listening. This 3‑way design pairs a 1" silk-dome tweeter, a dedicated midrange driver and a 5" woofer per channel with a tri-amped active crossover and full digital signal processing. Rated at 110 W RMS total output and covering a wide frequency range from 46 Hz to 40 kHz with an 85 dB signal-to-noise ratio, the MR5 supports high-resolution wired and wireless playback through balanced and unbalanced analog inputs as well as Bluetooth with LDAC and SBC codecs.

Advantages

The speaker system provides a flat, transparent frequency response and precise crossover handling to preserve detail across lows, mids and highs. Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certifications, combined with a premium analog front end and Class-D amplification, enable high-resolution playback up to 24-bit/96 kHz over supported connections. Multiple connectivity options—including balanced XLR and TRS, RCA, AUX and Bluetooth LDAC—allow flexible integration with desktop setups, audio interfaces and consumer devices. Built-in room acoustic compensation and app-adjustable presets help adapt the sound to different listening environments.

Suitable for

Home studio monitoring and music production in near-field and mid-field positions
Desktop audio and multimedia setups for detailed playback
High-resolution wireless listening from compatible mobile devices via LDAC
General home listening in medium-sized rooms requiring balanced, neutral sound

When it may not be suitable

The MR5 is designed primarily for critical listening and compact to medium-sized rooms; it is not intended as a portable battery-powered party speaker. While it offers substantial SPL and bass from its 5" woofers, extremely large venues or applications needing deep, room-shaking low frequency output may require larger subwoofers or speaker systems with bigger drivers. The system also expects an AC mains connection and is not optimized for always-on outdoor use.

Key specifications

Speaker configuration: 3-way stereo (tweeter + midrange + woofer)
Tweeter diameter: 1" (approx. 2.54 cm)
Woofer diameter: 5" (approx. 12.7 cm)
Rated output power: 110 W RMS (total)
Frequency response: 46–40,000 Hz
Signal-to-noise ratio: 85 dB
Maximum SPL: up to 101 dB @ 1 m (typical peak)
Connectivity: balanced XLR, balanced TRS, RCA, AUX, Bluetooth (LDAC, SBC)
Bluetooth version: Bluetooth audio receiver compatible with LDAC and SBC
Power requirements: AC adapter input 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz
Product colour: Black
Gross weight (approximate): 10.38 kg

How to use

Place the speakers in a stereo configuration with an appropriate listening distance so the soundstage and imaging are centered; near-field setups typically place speakers at ear height forming an equilateral triangle with the listener. Connect source devices via balanced XLR or TRS for the lowest noise and best dynamic range, or use RCA/AUX for consumer connections. For wireless playback, pair a compatible device using Bluetooth and select LDAC on devices that support high-resolution streaming. Use the rear-panel acoustic compensation knobs and the EDIFIER ConneX app to apply room correction presets or adjust EQ to taste. Ensure the unit is connected to mains power according to the supplied adapter specifications before operation.

What to consider before purchase

Intended room size and listening distance—suitable for near-field to medium-sized rooms
Need for balanced inputs (XLR/TRS) versus unbalanced consumer inputs (RCA/AUX)
Requirement for true portable, battery-powered operation (the MR5 requires mains power)
Desired wireless quality—LDAC support requires source devices that can transmit LDAC

Usage recommendations

For accurate reference listening, use balanced connections when possible, set speakers at ear height angled toward the listening position, and apply the ConneX app presets to compensate for room reflections. When using Bluetooth LDAC, ensure the source device is configured for high-bitrate transmission to take full advantage of the MR5’s Hi-Res Wireless capability.
