Thermostat Exo Terra PT2456 — Black for Terrarium Temperature Control
Thermostat Exo Terra PT2456 — Black for Terrarium Temperature Control
The Exo Terra PT2456 — Black for Terrarium Temperature Control is a compact electronic ON/OFF thermostat designed to regulate heating devices in reptile and amphibian enclosures. It is compatible with Exo Terra heating equipment and intended to manage heat mats, heat cables and ceramic heaters to create and maintain appropriate temperature gradients inside a terrarium. The unit includes a recessed adjustment dial, a remote waterproof temperature sensor and a heat indicator LED for straightforward monitoring of heating status.
The thermostat uses an electronic switching system to hold the set temperature with higher accuracy than many conventional mechanical thermostats, reducing large temperature swings. A recessed dial helps prevent accidental changes to the setpoint, while the red LED clearly indicates when the connected heating device is active. The included waterproof remote sensor allows safe placement in humid areas of the enclosure and supports more accurate local temperature measurement.
Install the thermostat outside the terrarium and connect the heating device (heat mat, heat cable or ceramic heater) to the thermostat outlet. Position the waterproof remote sensor at the location in the terrarium where you want to measure and control temperature—typically on a substrate or surface representative of the animal’s basking or resting area. Set the desired temperature on the recessed dial within the recommended range for your species. The LED will illuminate when the heating device is operating and turn off once the set temperature is reached.
Adjust the set temperature based on the preferred optimum temperature range (POTR) for the specific reptile or amphibian species. Verify the actual terrarium gradient with an independent thermometer or multiple sensors to ensure safe daytime and nighttime temperatures. Avoid placing the main unit in direct contact with water or very high-humidity conditions; use the remote waterproof sensor for internal measurements. Regularly check connections and sensor placement to maintain reliable temperature control.
