Ski/Snowboard Goggles GIRO Article II Peacock Stacked with VIVID Carl Zeiss ONYX (8–18% S3) and INFRARED (43–79% S1) lenses

GIRO Article II Peacock Stacked are interchangeable ski and snowboard goggles designed for alpine, freeride and resort use. The package includes two VIVID Carl Zeiss mirrored lenses: ONYX with a visible light transmission (VLT) of 8–18% classified as S3 for bright, sunny conditions, and INFRARED with a VLT of 43–79% classified as S1 for low-light or overcast situations. The stacked lens configuration enables quick lens changes and an extended field of view, while the VIVID Carl Zeiss optics enhance contrast and clarity to support terrain awareness and snow texture recognition.

Advantages

The interchangeable stacked-lens system allows fast swapping between high-contrast and low-light lenses without tools, reducing downtime on the mountain. VIVID Carl Zeiss optics provide improved contrast and edge definition, helping to distinguish ruts, bumps and icy patches. A wide frame and lens curvature increase peripheral vision, while mirrored coatings on both lenses help manage glare in bright conditions. The design balances protection, optical performance and practical usability for varied snow conditions.

Suitable for

• Alpine skiing on groomed runs and race training
• Freeride and off-piste where quick adaptation to light changes is needed
• Resort skiing and snowboarding in mixed weather conditions
• Riders who prioritize optical clarity and contrast at varying light levels

When it may not be suitable

These goggles are optimized for alpine and freeride environments where lens interchangeability and optical contrast are priorities; they may be excessive for casual apres-ski use or non-snow activities. If you require a permanently polarized lens or an integrated prescription solution, this model may not meet those specific needs.

Key specifications

• Lens system: Stacked interchangeable dual-lens configuration
• Included lenses: VIVID Carl Zeiss ONYX (S3, VLT 8–18%), VIVID Carl Zeiss INFRARED (S1, VLT 43–79%)
• Lens finish: Mirrored coatings for glare reduction
• Optical technology: VIVID Carl Zeiss contrast-enhancing optics
• Field of view: Extended peripheral vision through wide-frame design
• Use conditions: Bright sun to low-light/overcast

How to use

Start by selecting the appropriate lens for current light conditions: use the ONYX lens in bright, sunny weather and the INFRARED lens in low-light or flat-light situations. To change lenses, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the stacked system to secure or release the lens safely; ensure both lenses click into place and sit flush with the frame to maintain a seal and prevent fogging. Wear the goggles with compatible helmets and adjust the strap for a snug but comfortable fit. After use, dry and store lenses in a protective pouch to avoid scratches and preserve coatings.

What to consider before purchase

• Intended use: alpine, freeride or resort skiing/snowboarding where lens interchangeability is beneficial
• Light conditions you most often encounter to decide on included VLT ranges
• Compatibility with your helmet and face shape for fit and peripheral vision
• Care and storage requirements for mirrored and coated lenses

Usage recommendations

Use the ONYX S3 lens for bright, sunny days to reduce glare and preserve visual comfort; switch to the INFRARED S1 lens during dawn, dusk, overcast or wooded terrain to enhance contrast and reveal surface details. Regularly clean lenses with a soft microfiber cloth and store them in a protective case to maintain optical performance.
