Ski and Snowboard Goggles GIRO SAGEN with AMBER SCARLET (S2) and YELLOW (S0) Lenses

The GIRO SAGEN ski and snowboard goggles come with two interchangeable lenses — AMBER SCARLET (visible light transmission 19–42%, category S2) and YELLOW (80–99%, category S0) — to provide adaptable optical performance for a range of lighting conditions encountered on slopes and in the backcountry. The design integrates a helmet-compatible frame shape and foam padding to create a secure, comfortable fit while maintaining a wide field of view for situational awareness. Constructed for active snow sports, these goggles aim to balance contrast enhancement with glare control depending on the chosen lens.

Advantages

These goggles offer flexible eye protection through two dedicated lenses: the AMBER SCARLET lens reduces glare and increases contrast in mixed and variable daylight, while the YELLOW lens maximizes visibility in low-light, flat-light, or pre-dawn conditions. The helmet-compatible frame and multi-layer face foam provide comfort and an even seal to reduce cold air intrusion. Quick lens-change capability allows riders to adapt optics on the fly as weather and light change.

Suitable for

• All-mountain skiing and snowboarding where lighting can change rapidly
• Resort days with varied sun, cloud, and shadow conditions
• Backcountry tours and early-morning/late-afternoon sessions in low light
• Riders who want a single goggle system with interchangeable lenses for multiple conditions

When it may not be suitable

These goggles are optimized for variable daylight and low-light situations but may not be ideal for extended use in consistently bright, high-glare alpine sun if a mirror or very dark lens is preferred. They also rely on manual lens changes, so riders seeking fully automatic or electronically adaptive tinting would need a different solution.

Key specifications

• Included lenses: AMBER SCARLET (VLT 19–42%, category S2) and YELLOW (VLT 80–99%, category S0)
• Frame type: helmet-compatible shape with wide peripheral view
• Foam: multi-layer face foam for comfort and fit
• Lens interchange: quick-change mechanism for tool-free swapping
• Intended use: skiing and snowboarding, resort and backcountry

How to use

Select the appropriate lens for current light conditions: use the AMBER SCARLET lens for mixed to bright conditions to improve contrast and reduce glare, and switch to the YELLOW lens in low-light, foggy or flat-light scenarios to enhance visibility. Ensure the goggles sit comfortably against the face foam and that any helmet is adjusted for a gap-free interface. Perform lens changes in a sheltered area to avoid scratching lenses, and keep the lenses dry and clean using a soft microfiber cloth.

What to consider before purchase

• Intended riding environment (resort vs. backcountry and typical daylight conditions)
• Compatibility with your helmet and how the goggle frame integrates with helmet shape
• Preference for lens categories and whether an S2 plus S0 combination meets your typical conditions

Usage recommendations

Store lenses in a protective pouch when not in use, avoid touching the inner anti-fog surface, and rinse off snow or saltwater with clean water before drying. Replace lenses if they become scratched or if anti-fog performance degrades. For optimal performance, pair the goggles with a helmet that creates a snug, gap-free interface and check strap tension before each run.
