Handheld map compass Helikon Scout Mk2 Acrylic Blend — liquid-filled, scales 1:25k/1:24k/1:50k/1:62.5k, backlight, ruler, 10 mm depth
Helikon Scout Mk2 Acrylic Blend is a compact, liquid-filled handheld map compass designed for map-based navigation. Constructed from an acrylic/ABS blend, it combines a transparent baseplate with an integrated ruler and selectable map scales. The compass includes a backlight for low-light reading and a cable attachment point for secure carrying; its dimensions and low weight make it suitable for field navigation tasks.
The acrylic/ABS construction provides a clear, durable baseplate while the liquid-filled capsule stabilizes the needle for easier reading. Multiple map scales (1:25 000, 1:24 000, 1:50 000, 1:62.5 000) printed on the baseplate allow direct measurement on common topographic maps. An integrated ruler and backlight increase usability in varied conditions, and the cable attachment enables convenient fastening to gear.
Place the transparent baseplate on the map aligning the appropriate scale with the map grid or distance markers. Hold the compass level so the liquid-filled capsule allows the needle to settle; rotate the housing or map until the orienting lines align with map north for bearing reading. Use the integrated ruler to measure distances directly on the map. Use the backlight when visibility is low and attach the compass to your gear with the cable for quick access.
Use the compass on a flat surface and keep it away from strong magnetic fields or metallic objects while taking bearings. Store in a dry place to preserve the acrylic/ABS baseplate and backlight components.
