Product information

Description

The Homematic IP HmIP-HCU1 Wired & Wireless smart home central unit in Anthracite combines wired and wireless connectivity to serve as a flexible control centre for smart-home installations. It supports RF operation in the 868–868.6 MHz and 869.4–869.65 MHz ranges with up to 400 m transmission range, offers Fast Ethernet (LAN/RJ-45) and Wi‑Fi (802.11b/g/n/ac) connectivity, and is powered from 100–240 V, 50 Hz. The compact housing (96×96×173 mm) can be placed on a shelf or mounted on a wall using the included bracket. The unit is designed to operate either online via the Homematic IP Cloud or offline with local control and automation routines.

Advantages

The Home Control Unit supports up to 350 devices, including a maximum of 120 wireless products, enabling gradual scaling from small installations to large, future-oriented systems. It provides both cloud-based access and an offline mode that executes rules and stores data locally, offering privacy options and operation without an Internet connection. Integrated network interfaces (Fast Ethernet and modern Wi‑Fi standards) and support for EEBUS allow monitoring and future integration of energy devices such as heat pumps, air conditioners and wallboxes. The device also supports plugin expansion for third-party integrations and offers a local web interface (HCUweb) for advanced configuration.

Suitable for

  • Residential smart homes requiring mixed wired and wireless control
  • Installations that need local operation without cloud dependency
  • Systems that integrate energy devices via EEBUS for monitoring
  • Users who want a scalable solution supporting up to 350 devices
  • Setups requiring connectivity to routers via Fast Ethernet or Wi‑Fi

Key specifications

  • RF frequencies: 868–868.6 MHz and 869.4–869.65 MHz
  • Maximum RF transmission range: up to 400 m (open field, nominal)
  • Network: Fast Ethernet (LAN/RJ‑45) and Wi‑Fi 802.11b/g/n/ac
  • Power supply: 100–240 V, 50 Hz
  • Supported devices: up to 350 devices (max. 120 wireless)
  • Physical dimensions: 96 × 96 × 173 mm
  • Installation: shelf placement or wall mounting with supplied bracket
  • Local operation: offline mode for local automation and data storage

How to use

Connect the Home Control Unit to your network using the supplied LAN cable or set it up over Wi‑Fi following the instructions in the free Homematic IP App. Choose online mode to connect the unit to the Homematic IP Cloud for remote access and automatic firmware updates, or select offline mode to store and run all automation routines locally without sending data to the cloud. Add and configure devices in the app or via the HCUweb interface for local network configuration and advanced settings. Mount the unit on a wall with the included bracket or place it on a stable surface for operation.

Usage recommendations

For stable wireless coverage, position the unit centrally relative to wireless devices and avoid large metal obstacles. Use the wired Ethernet connection when possible for maximum reliability, and enable offline mode when privacy or local-only operation is required. Keep firmware up to date for security and to enable new plugin integrations as they become available.
