High-density performance with flexible drive options

Populate the MSL3040 with up to 48 half-height LTO-9, LTO-8, or LTO-7 SAS or FC Ultrium drives to achieve exceptional throughput and concurrency. Drives and expansion units install and configure quickly without disrupting operations. The included LTO-9 SAS drive and LTO-9 cartridges provide an efficient, high-capacity foundation for long-term backup and archive workflows.

The MSL3040 delivers industry-leading density—13 cartridge slots or roughly 600 TB (with LTO-9 and 2.5:1 compression) per 1U—so you get more native capacity in less space. Library partitioning lets you present separate logical libraries to hosts from a single physical system, making it simple to consolidate multiple backup streams while maintaining isolation between departments or applications.

Manage, configure, and monitor the MSL3040 remotely with HPE Tape Library Management and HPE Command View for Tape Libraries. These browser-based tools reduce human intervention, automate routine tasks, and simplify data protection and archiving workflows to improve operational efficiency.

Predictive health monitoring and data verification

Optional TapeAssure Advanced provides predictive analytics and health reporting for drives and cartridges so you can plan timely maintenance and replacements. The Data Verification feature non-disruptively scans and validates data on cartridges to help ensure reliable restores when you need them.

Secure, appliance-style encryption and access control

Protect archived data with the MSL encryption kit, a self-contained encryption solution that does not require an external server or KMIP infrastructure. Use StoreEver MSL3040 Secure Manager LTU to control host access and block unauthorized servers, adding another layer of protection for critical archives.
