Heatsink/Radiator ICY BOX IB-M2HSF-705
The ICY BOX IB-M2HSF-705 is a compact silver heatsink with an integrated 30 mm fan, designed to lower operating temperatures of M.2 solid-state drives and maintain consistent performance. The unit combines a low-profile heatsink and an active fan solution to support thermal management of SSDs in confined enclosures. It delivers up to 8500 RPM of fan speed, an airflow of approximately 2.87 CFM (4.87 m³/h), and operates at 12 V. Its dimensions (50 mm × 75 mm × 30 mm) allow flexible placement inside desktops, mini PCs and small form-factor systems.
The swivelling design allows the heatsink to be positioned for optimal airflow direction and creates space around adjacent PCIe components, improving compatibility in compact builds. The combination of cooling fins, heatpipe technology and the 30 mm fan yields a thermal dissipation capability suitable for typical M.2 SSD workloads, helping to reduce drive temperatures and maintain sustained performance. The fan is engineered for relatively low acoustic output at typical operating conditions and can be fine-tuned via BIOS fan controls when available.
Mount the ICY BOX IB-M2HSF-705 on the M.2 2280 SSD following your motherboard or enclosure instructions for heatsink installation. Ensure the contact surfaces between the SSD controller/flash area and the heatsink base are clean and, if required, apply any thermal pad supplied or recommended by the enclosure/motherboard manufacturer. Position the swivelling heatsink to align the fan intake/exhaust with the case airflow path and secure it so that adjacent PCIe cards or components are not obstructed. Connect the fan to a 12 V system header or the appropriate fan connector on the motherboard, and verify operation at different fan profiles through BIOS or fan control software if available.
For best results, monitor SSD temperatures during initial use to determine the optimal fan profile. Use motherboard BIOS fan curves to balance acoustic level and cooling performance. When installing in compact enclosures, swivel the heatsink to minimize interference with other components while maintaining direct airflow across the fins and fan.
