The Icy Dock MB830SP-B is a black HDD enclosure designed to accommodate up to three 3.5" storage drives. It supports both Serial ATA (SATA) and SAS drive interfaces and provides a data transfer rate of up to 6 Gbit/s. Constructed from metal and ABS, the enclosure offers hot-swap capability for convenient drive replacement and maintenance while minimizing system downtime.
The enclosure combines a compact 3-bay design with support for enterprise and consumer drive interfaces, enabling mixed-drive configurations in a single chassis. Metal construction enhances durability and heat dissipation while the ABS components reduce weight. Hot-swap support simplifies drive changes without powering down the host system, and the 6 Gbit/s transfer capability ensures compatibility with common SATA III and SAS throughput expectations.
Install 3.5" SATA or SAS drives into the front-access bays according to the manufacturer's alignment and secure them as required by the tray mechanism. Connect the enclosure to the host system using the appropriate internal or external interface provided by your chassis or controller, ensuring the host supports 6 Gbit/s transfer rates if required. After connecting power and data, use the host operating system or RAID controller to initialize, format, or integrate the drives into existing arrays. For hot-swap operations, follow the host system procedures to safely eject or deactivate a drive before removing it from the bay.
