Media Converter Intellinet Fast Ethernet WDM Bi-Directional 510530
The Intellinet Fast Ethernet WDM Bi-Directional Media Converter utilizes single-mode fibre and bi-directional wavelength division multiplexing (1310/1550 nm) to convert 10/100Base-TX copper Ethernet to 100Base-FX over a single fibre strand. It is transparent to the network and supports both copper and fibre mediums, enabling extended links up to 20 km with a maximum throughput of 100 Mbit/s. The compact metal housing includes an SC fibre connector, one RJ-45 port and one fibre port, and consumes 2.5 W.
This media converter allows transmission and reception on separate wavelengths over a single strand of fibre, effectively doubling capacity or freeing the second strand for an independent connection without installing additional fibre. It expands network reach between buildings or extended workgroups without adding routers, increases the distance between networking devices by connecting to fibre segments, and offers flexible installation options thanks to its small form factor and wall- or rack-mount compatibility.
Connect the RJ-45 port to the copper Ethernet device or switch and the SC fibre connector to the single-mode fibre cable. Ensure the fibre link uses the correct bi-directional wavelengths (1310/1550 nm) accepted by the remote device. Power the converter and verify link/activity LEDs to confirm connectivity. For rack deployments, install the converter into a compatible 19" chassis; for desktop or wall-mounting, position the unit to allow fibre and power cable access.
Use single-mode fibre and compatible WDM equipment on the remote end. Verify wavelength pairing (1310/1550 nm), test end-to-end link integrity after installation, and follow standard fibre handling procedures to avoid connector contamination or cable damage.
