Twist drill bit Irwin 10501930 — 7 mm diameter, metal/wood drilling
Twist drill bit Irwin 10501930 — 7 mm diameter is a cylindrical-shank twist drill designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and wood. Optimised for cordless low-RPM multi-purpose drilling, this Irwin bit is intended for use with handheld drills and drill presses for routine hole-making, fastening and assembly tasks. The bit features a four-facet ground carbide tip that improves centring and reduces required drilling pressure, and it is suitable for rotary drilling only (no hammer/percussion).
The four-facet ground carbide tip provides improved centring and reduced walking when starting holes, leading to cleaner and more accurate results in materials such as sheet metal and wood. Its cylindrical shank fits standard chucks, allowing use in cordless drills and drill presses. The design performs well at low RPM, which helps control heat and prolongs tool life during workshop and maintenance tasks. The bit is capable of drilling common construction and DIY materials including metal, wood, plastics and tiles when used with rotary drilling.
Secure the drill bit in the chuck of a handheld drill or drill press, ensuring the shank is fully seated and tightened. Select a low to moderate rotational speed suitable for a 7 mm bit and the material being drilled. Position the bit at the marked drilling point, apply steady, even pressure and allow the carbide tip to centre and penetrate the surface. Withdraw the bit periodically to clear chips when drilling deep holes, and avoid using hammer or percussion modes to prevent tip damage. When drilling tiles, use consistent light pressure and appropriate backing to reduce the risk of cracking.
Use cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to reduce heat and prolong bit life. For clean holes in delicate materials, start with a small pilot mark or pilot hole. Store the bit in a dry container to prevent corrosion and inspect the tip for wear before use; replace when accuracy or cutting performance declines.
