USB flash drive KINGSTON IronKey Vault Privacy 50 512GB — USB-A 3.2 Gen1, AES-256 hardware encryption, FIPS 197
Kingston IronKey Vault Privacy 50 (VP50) is a hardware-encrypted USB flash drive available in USB Type-A and USB Type-C® form factors that provides enterprise-grade data protection. It uses FIPS 197 certified XTS-AES 256-bit encryption, includes firmware safeguards against BadUSB and protections against brute-force password attacks, and offers encrypted storage under the user’s physical control as an alternative to cloud storage for sensitive data.
VP50 supports multiple password roles — Admin, User and One-Time Recovery — and offers two password modes, Complex and Passphrase, to improve recovery flexibility. Built-in defenses include BadUSB mitigation, brute-force lockout and crypto-erase after repeated Admin failures. The device also provides read-only (write-protect) options, a virtual on-screen keyboard for use on untrusted systems, and a password reveal option to reduce entry errors. Drives can be customised with a product ID (PID) for integration with endpoint management tools; units are assembled in the USA and feature IPX8 water resistance and TAA compliance.
Plug the VP50 drive into a compatible USB Type-A or Type-C port. Initialise the device by setting an Admin password, then create a User password for everyday access and optionally set a One-Time Recovery password for emergency recovery. Select Complex or Passphrase mode according to the desired password format and length. Use the on-screen virtual keyboard when operating on untrusted systems and enable the password reveal option if needed to reduce typing mistakes. To prevent modification of stored data on untrusted hosts, enable Read-Only mode via the Admin role or use session-based Read-Only as required.
Store the Admin password separately and use the One-Time Recovery option only when needed. Regularly test recovery procedures and keep firmware updated through authorised channels. For organisational deployments, enrol drives with a PID and manage devices via endpoint management tools to maintain compliance and simplify administration.
