The Kingston IronKey™ Keypad 200 (KP200) series are hardware-encrypted USB Type-A and USB Type-C® drives with an alphanumeric keypad for PIN access. KP200 uses XTS-AES 256-bit hardware encryption and is FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending) certified, providing tamper-evident protection with a special epoxy layer over circuitry, digitally signed firmware for BadUSB protection, and brute-force attack defenses. The drives include a built-in rechargeable battery that allows unlocking via the keypad before plugging into any device that supports USB mass storage, and certain models offer fast dual-channel performance.

Advantages

The keypad allows OS-independent unlocking so the drive can be used across different platforms without software. XTS-AES 256-bit hardware encryption combined with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending) certification and epoxy-covered circuitry increases resistance to physical tampering. Digitally signed firmware and BadUSB protection reduce firmware-based threats. How to use

Use the alphanumeric keypad to set an Admin and/or User PIN directly on the drive; the built-in battery powers the keypad so the drive can be unlocked before connecting to a host. After entering the PIN and unlocking, plug the drive into any device supporting USB Type-A or USB Type-C mass storage to access files. Admin can restore a User PIN if forgotten or manage Global Read-Only mode. If the User PIN fails 10 times the User account will lock; 10 consecutive wrong Admin PIN entries will trigger crypto-erase to protect data against brute-force attacks.

Recommendations

Set both Admin and User PINs to balance recoverability and daily access, enable Global Read-Only mode when distributing data to untrusted systems, and keep the drive charged periodically so the built-in battery can unlock the device when needed.
