Description

The Kingston IronKey Keypad 200 series are hardware-encrypted USB Type-A and USB Type-C drives with an alphanumeric keypad for PIN access. The KP200 family uses XTS-AES 256-bit hardware encryption, tamper-evident construction with epoxy-coated circuitry, brute-force attack protection, BadUSB protection with digitally signed firmware, and a polymer-coated keypad that conceals key wear. The drives include a built-in rechargeable battery so the keypad can unlock the drive without host software before connecting to any device that supports USB mass storage.

Advantages

The KP200 series provides FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending) security, hardware-based XTS-AES 256-bit encryption, and physical tamper resistance to protect semiconductor components. The alphanumeric keypad allows Admin and User PINs (Multi-PIN) for flexible access control, with Admin recovery and configurable read-only modes to prevent data alteration. BadUSB protection and digitally signed firmware limit firmware-based attacks. The rechargeable battery makes the drive OS- and device-independent for unlocking on different platforms.

How to use

Use the alphanumeric keypad to create and enter an Admin or User PIN to unlock the drive. The built-in rechargeable battery allows you to unlock the drive with the keypad first, then plug it into a device that supports USB Type-A or USB Type-C mass storage. If both Admin and User PINs are enabled, the User PIN will lock after 10 failed attempts; the Admin PIN can restore the User PIN or, if entered incorrectly 10 times, trigger crypto-erase to destroy data. To protect content, set session Read-Only mode when connecting to untrusted systems or have an Admin set Global Read-Only mode for persistent write protection.

Recommendations

Store the Admin PIN securely and use the Admin account to configure Global Read-Only mode when distributing data. Regularly recharge the built-in battery so you can unlock the drive without host software, and avoid exposing the device to physical tampering to maintain tamper-evident protections.
