Serial Server Lantronix UDS2100

The Lantronix UDS2100 Serial Server allows connection, management and control of serial devices (RS-232/422/485) over Ethernet or the Internet. This dual-port device server adds two serial devices to a network quickly and transparently, encapsulating serial data into Ethernet packets for remote access. The unit includes a built-in web server, on-board Flash for firmware and web page storage, and supports 10/100Base-T(X) networking with a 9–30 V input.

Advantages

The UDS2100 provides transparent serial tunneling so existing serial applications and attached equipment require no changes. It supports modem-emulation to replace dial-up modems and uses Lantronix Com Port Redirector with TruPort technology to expose remote serial ports as local COM ports on Windows. Configuration can be performed locally via the serial port or remotely via Telnet or a web browser. On-board Flash enables firmware upgrades and storage of custom web pages.

How to use

Install the UDS2100 in the network and connect serial devices to its dual serial ports. Configure network and device parameters using the built-in web server, Telnet or the serial console. Optionally install Lantronix DeviceInstaller and the Com Port Redirector on a Windows PC to map remote serial ports as local COM ports. For direct device-to-device tunnels, configure two UDS2100 units to communicate automatically over the network to create virtual serial links.

Usage recommendations

For stable operation, assign static IP addresses or ensure reliable DHCP reservations for devices that require persistent connections. Use the built-in firmware upgrade process to keep system software current and store any custom web pages in on-board Flash. When replacing modems, confirm the target device supports modem AT commands or test modem-emulation settings before deployment.
