Active Reference Monitor Pair M-Audio IK iLoud MTM MKII – Nearfield Studio Monitors
The Active Reference Monitor Pair M-Audio IK iLoud MTM MKII are compact nearfield studio monitors designed for accurate midrange reproduction and controlled dispersion. These two-way MTM speakers integrate built-in amplification and on-board DSP to deliver a balanced response in small to medium control rooms, making them suitable for mixing, tracking and critical listening. The monitors aim to provide a neutral tonal balance and focused imaging while minimising room-induced coloration through adjustable settings and a precise midrange driver arrangement.
These active reference monitors combine compact cabinets with dedicated amplification and digital signal processing to produce consistent sound at typical nearfield listening distances. The MTM (midwoofer–tweeter–midwoofer) configuration improves midrange clarity and symmetry across the sweet spot, while controlled dispersion reduces off-axis anomalies. On-board DSP and room-tuning options allow users to adapt the monitors to different placement and acoustic conditions without external processors.
Place the monitors at ear height and form an equilateral triangle with the listening position for nearfield monitoring. Allow a small distance from the rear wall or use the built-in room-tuning controls to compensate for boundary effects. Connect line-level outputs from your audio interface, mixer or controller to the monitors’ balanced inputs and set system gain so that typical playback levels avoid distortion while preserving headroom. Use the on-board DSP settings to adjust low-frequency shelving or high-frequency tilt according to room acoustics and personal reference preferences.
For consistent results, calibrate listening level with a reference tone and make adjustments to DSP or placement before critical mixing sessions. When space allows, isolate the monitors from the desk surface using dedicated stands or isolation pads to reduce coupling and improve imaging.
