Dynamic microphone Monacor SA-18 – handheld vocal microphone, wired, cardioid (SA-18)
Monacor SA-18 is a dynamic handheld microphone engineered for vocal applications and general sound reinforcement. Designed as a wired, cardioid microphone, it focuses on capturing direct sound from the source while reducing off-axis noise and feedback. The SA-18 features a robust construction suitable for regular stage use, rehearsals and public speaking, offering simple plug-and-play connectivity for most PA and mixer setups.
The cardioid polar pattern provides focused pickup of vocals and speech while attenuating room reflections and side noise. Its dynamic capsule is built to withstand handling and stage conditions, delivering reliable performance without the need for external power. The wired connection ensures stable signal transmission and compatibility with standard XLR inputs on mixers and audio interfaces. The design emphasizes practicality and durability for routine live and rehearsal use.
Connect the Monacor SA-18 to a mixer, PA or audio interface using a balanced microphone cable. Position the microphone close to the mouth, typically 5–15 cm, and angle slightly to reduce plosive sounds. Use the mixer or preamp gain control to set an appropriate input level and apply high-pass filtering or EQ as needed to manage low-frequency noise. For best feedback control, keep stage monitors at an angle relative to the microphone and allow the cardioid pattern to reject sound from behind the capsule.
Handle the microphone by its body, avoid dropping or striking the capsule, and store in a dry place when not in use. For consistent results, check cable connections before each use and perform a quick soundcheck to set levels and EQ. Use a windscreen or pop shield if close-miking for vocals to reduce plosives and breath noise.
