The NewerTech AdaptaDrive is a 2.5" to 3.5" internal SATA drive converter bracket that lets you install any 2.5" SATA hard drive or SSD into a standard 3.5" drive bay. Made from aluminum with an open design for improved cooling, the adapter supports SATA Revision 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 (up to 6 Gbit/s) drives and fits desktop Mac, PC, or external enclosures with 3.5" mounting points.
The AdaptaDrive preserves full SATA throughput and has been benchmark-tested to deliver the same data transfer rates as a drive connected directly to the SATA data bus. Its aluminum construction and open-frame layout improve airflow for SSD and HDD cooling, and the industry-standard 3.5" mounting holes ensure compatibility with most desktop bays and enclosures. It supports legacy 1.5Gb/s and 3Gb/s drives as well as modern 6Gb/s SSDs, allowing reuse of notebook drives or installation of high-performance SATA 6Gb/s SSDs without creating a performance bottleneck.
Install a 2.5" SATA drive into the AdaptaDrive bracket and secure it using the 2.5" drive screw holes. Insert the assembled adapter into a 3.5" drive bay and fasten it using the 3.5" mounting screw locations. Connect the SATA data and power cables from your motherboard or enclosure to the drive. After powering the system, verify the drive is recognized in BIOS/OS and initialize or format it as required.
For best performance with SATA 6Gb/s SSDs, install the AdaptaDrive into a SATA 3.0 (6Gb/s) compatible port and ensure adequate case airflow; avoid obstructing the open-frame design to maintain optimal cooling and sustained transfer rates.
