Fan Noctua NF-F12
The Noctua NF-F12 5V PWM is a 120 mm 5V PWM-controlled cooling fan designed for pressure-demanding applications such as heatsinks, radiators and custom 5V systems. It combines Noctua’s Advanced Acoustic Optimisation (AAO) frame, the FocusedFlow™ system and a seven-blade Heptaperf™ impeller to deliver a balance of airflow and static pressure while maintaining low noise. The fan features a custom NE-FD3 PWM IC with Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD), SSO2 bearing technology, a metal (brass) CNC-milled bearing shell and includes an OmniJoin™ adaptor set, USB power adaptor cable, sleeved cabling and a 6-year manufacturer’s warranty. Note: this 5V model must not be powered from 12V sources (e.g., standard PC motherboard fan headers) as this will damage the unit.
The NF-F12 5V PWM offers focused airflow and high static pressure through its FocusedFlow™ frame with eleven stator guide vanes and a Heptaperf™ seven-blade impeller, enabling effective cooling in confined or resistance-heavy environments. Acoustic measures such as Varying Angular Distance, Vortex-Control Notches, Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures reduce tonal noise and improve overall noise characteristics. The fan’s SSO2 bearing, CNC-milled brass bearing shell and Noctua’s custom PWM IC with SCD ensure smooth operation, long-term stability and suppressed PWM switching noise at low speeds. Integrated anti-vibration pads and extensive cabling options (20 cm primary cable plus 30 cm extension), together with the OmniJoin™ adaptor set and USB power adaptor cable, provide flexible installation in many 5V applications.
Connect the primary sleeved cable to a compatible 5V PWM source or use the included USB power adaptor to run the fan from a USB host or power bank. If your device uses a proprietary 5V header, cut the original fan cable and join it to the OmniJoin™ adaptor using the supplied 3M Scotchlok™ connectors to interface the NF-F12 5V PWM with that header. Ensure correct polarity when connecting; the fan includes an integrated diode for polarity protection but correct wiring is still recommended. Do not connect the fan to 12V-powered headers or supplies.
Use the NF-F12 5V PWM in 5V systems that require PWM-based speed control and where static pressure is needed. Avoid supplying the fan with 12V. For optimal acoustic performance, mount the fan with the integrated anti-vibration pads and keep intake and exhaust paths unobstructed.
