The NH-D12L chromax.black is Noctua’s low-height 120mm-class air cooler in an all-black finish. At a height of 145 mm it is 13 mm lower than Noctua’s regular 120mm models, which enables compatibility with many 4U rackmount enclosures, narrower tower cases and some Small Form Factor and Mini-ITX chassis. Its five-heatpipe dual-tower design combined with the NF-A12x25r 120mm fan delivers cooling performance that surpasses many full-height 120mm solutions while keeping a compact profile. The cooler comes with Noctua’s SecuFirm2™ mounting system, NT-H1 thermal compound, an AM5 offset mounting option and a 6-year manufacturer’s warranty.

How to use

Install the NH-D12L using the supplied SecuFirm2™ mounting hardware that matches your socket (instructions included). Apply a small, pea-sized amount of the included NT-H1 thermal compound to the CPU heatspreader, place the heatsink onto the processor and fasten the mounting brackets to the motherboard according to the manual. Connect the NF-A12x25r PWM fan to the CPU fan header for automatic speed control. If lower maximum noise is required, attach the supplied Low-Noise Adaptor to reduce top speed from 2000 to 1700 RPM. For AMD AM5 systems, use the offset mounting bars when improved contact above the CCD(s) is desired.

Usage recommendations

For best results ensure adequate case airflow and verify RAM module height clearance on LGA2066 systems (rear fin stack may limit modules taller than 45 mm). Use the PWM header for automatic fan control and the Low-Noise Adaptor for quieter operation under light loads. Keep the mounting hardware tightened to the specified torque in the manual to maintain optimal contact pressure over time.
