Reversing ring Novoflex MFT-RETRO for Micro Four Thirds lenses — Novoflex MFT-RETRO
The Novoflex MFT-RETRO reversing ring allows Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lenses to be mounted reversed so the rear element faces outward, enabling high-magnification and close-up photography without optical adapters. The accessory maintains a secure mechanical connection between the lens and the camera or an intermediate adapter while intentionally omitting electronic contacts, so aperture and autofocus functions must be set manually on the lens. The compact metal construction provides a stable, low-profile mount for macro work using existing MFT lenses.
The reversing ring is lightweight and robust, offering a direct mechanical interface that preserves flange alignment and minimizes play. By reversing an MFT lens you achieve greater magnification and a shorter minimum focus distance compared with forward-mounted use, using gear you already own. The absence of electronics simplifies compatibility across generations of MFT lenses and reduces potential points of failure.
To use the reversing ring, remove the lens from the camera, attach the ring to the lens rear as you would a camera body, then mount the reversed lens onto the camera or an adapter so the rear element faces outward. Set the lens aperture and focus manually; stop-down metering or manual exposure control on the camera will be needed. Use a tripod or focusing rail to stabilize composition and adjust subject distance, as depth of field is very shallow at high magnification. Where available, use live view and focus peaking to achieve precise focus.
Use controlled lighting and a sturdy support when shooting reversed lenses to reduce vibration and improve image sharpness. Macro adapters or extension tubes are not required with the reversing ring but can be combined if additional magnification or working distance is needed. Check lens rear cleanliness before mounting to avoid dust or scratches on the exposed rear element.
