Icy Dock MB155SP-B 5-Bay 3.5-inch SATA HDD Mobile Rack for 3x 5.25-inch Drive Bays
The Icy Dock MB155SP-B is a high-density mobile rack designed to house five 3.5-inch SATA hard drives within three standard 5.25-inch drive bays. This internal RAID backplane cage provides a reliable and space-efficient solution for expanding storage capacity in servers and workstations. By utilizing a robust metal construction and an integrated 92mm cooling fan, the unit ensures effective thermal management and long-term durability for your data storage needs.
The primary benefit of this mobile rack is its ability to maximize storage density by fitting five drives into the space typically occupied by three optical drives. The design features a modular cooling system with a large, easily replaceable fan that offers three speed settings, allowing users to balance noise levels and thermal performance. The use of the established EZ-Tray system ensures compatibility with various other Icy Dock series, facilitating seamless drive swapping and maintenance. Furthermore, the unit utilizes 15-pin SATA power connectors, which are standard in modern systems, and supports hot-swapping to minimize downtime during drive replacements or RAID array management.
This device is not designed for 2.5-inch drives unless used with appropriate adapters, and it is strictly intended for internal installation within 5.25-inch drive bays. It may not be suitable for small form factor cases that lack three contiguous 5.25-inch slots.
To install the device, slide the unit into three empty 5.25-inch bays in your computer chassis and secure it with screws. Connect the SATA data cables and 15-pin SATA power cables to the rear of the backplane. To install a hard drive, mount it into the EZ-Tray, slide the tray into the bay, and lock the lever. The system will automatically detect the drive. To remove a drive, press the release button and pull the lever to slide the tray out.
For optimal performance, keep the ventilation paths clear of obstructions and adjust the fan speed jumper based on your ambient temperature and drive load requirements. Regularly inspect the fan for dust buildup to maintain efficient cooling.
