Opal cork T9 black 5/4 inch with edge — cork sheet for flooring/insulation
Opal cork T9 black 5/4 inch with edge is a cork sheet designed for use as flooring underlayment and for thermal and acoustic insulation. The product offers a 5/4 inch (approximately 31.75 mm) thickness that provides substantial compressive support beneath floor coverings and contributes to reduced sound transmission and improved thermal resistance. Finished edges simplify alignment and joining during installation, enabling a more uniform sublayer for a variety of floor systems.
The cork sheet combines natural elasticity and dimensional stability to deliver consistent support and impact damping beneath finishes. Its 5/4 inch thickness increases insulation performance compared with thinner underlays, while the finished edges reduce cutting and trimming time and improve seam fit. The material’s inherent resistance to mold and mildew, along with stable compressive properties, make it suitable for environments where long-term performance and acoustic control are important.
Prepare the subfloor by ensuring it is clean, dry and level before laying the cork sheet. Roll out or place the cork panels with finished edges aligned to form continuous coverage. Trim edges where necessary to fit perimeter conditions and butt the finished edges together to minimize gaps. Install the chosen floor covering according to the flooring manufacturer’s instructions, taking into account any adhesive, floating or nail-down method. Ensure seams are tight and transitions to other floor planes are handled with appropriate trim or underlayment profiles.
For best acoustic and thermal performance, allow the cork sheets to acclimate in the installation environment for 24–48 hours. Use appropriate moisture barriers where recommended for the chosen floor covering and substrate. Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water and follow the floor covering maker’s guidelines for compatible underlayment materials and maximum compressive loads.
