Liquid fuel stove Optimus Crux
The Optimus Crux is a lightweight liquid fuel stove designed for compact outdoor cooking. Weighing approximately 83 g and featuring a single cooking zone, the stove supports natural gas fuel and folds to a small footprint that fits into the cavity at the bottom of compatible gas cartridges. Its compact dimensions (57 mm width × 76 mm depth) and efficient burner construction enable rapid heating for simple meal preparation while backpacking, camping or travelling.
The Optimus Crux combines low weight and small folded size with a stable single-burner platform. Its foldable pot supports reduce packed volume, and the stove’s efficient burner provides quick boil times on natural gas. The simple mechanical design is easy to set up and dismantle for maintenance and packing, making the unit suitable for minimalist and multi-day trips where saving weight and space is important.
Set the Optimus Crux on stable, level ground clear of flammable material. Attach a compatible gas cartridge according to the cartridge manufacturer’s instructions until the connection is secure. Unfold the pot supports and ignite the burner using a lighter or built-in igniter if available, then adjust flame output to the required heat. Position cookware centrally on the supports and monitor while cooking. After use, turn off the gas at the cartridge, allow the stove to cool, fold the supports and stow the stove in its bag or a dry compartment.
Use the stove with appropriate cookware sized to the single burner and avoid oversized pots that may reduce stability. Check cartridge and stove connections for leaks before ignition, follow local regulations for fuel use outdoors, and carry spare cartridges if planning extended trips.
