Internal drive adapter OWC Data Doubler Blue – OWC OWCDIDIMCL0GB, 2.5-inch bay for adding second HDD/SSD
OWC Data Doubler Blue is an internal drive adapter designed to install a 2.5-inch HDD or SSD into an available internal bay. The adapter provides a mounting bracket and required SATA connections to add a second drive to compatible systems, allowing expansion of storage capacity or the addition of a fast solid-state drive for improved boot and application load times. The Data Doubler Blue is engineered to accept 2.5" SATA drives up to 12.5 mm in height and is commonly used when replacing an internal optical bay to add a secondary storage device.
The Data Doubler Blue offers a compact mounting solution that enables adding a second internal drive without external enclosures. It supports both HDD and SSD formats, enabling users to choose between higher capacity or higher performance. The bracket is custom-engineered for a secure fit in compatible optical drive bays and comes with the necessary connectors to integrate the added drive into the system's SATA infrastructure. OWC provides model-specific installation resources and customer support to assist with the upgrade process.
Install a compatible 2.5" SATA HDD or SSD into the Data Doubler Blue bracket following the included mounting instructions and secure the drive at the specified mounting points. Connect the drive's SATA connector to the host system's SATA cable or internal connector provided by the adapter, then install the complete Data Doubler assembly into the target internal bay (for example an optical drive bay) according to the system-specific procedure. After physical installation, power on the system and use the operating system's disk management utility to format, partition, or configure the new drive. On macOS, Apple's Disk Utility can be used to format the drive, create RAID configurations, partition the drive, or designate it as a Time Machine backup target.
Verify compatibility with your specific system model before purchase and follow model-specific installation guides or videos. Use a 2.5" SATA drive no thicker than 12.5 mm and ensure proper cable connections. After installation, initialize and format the drive using the operating system tools and, if desired, set up Time Machine or other backup solutions. If unsure about the installation, consult OWC's support resources or a qualified technician.
