External Hard Drive OWC DIYIMACHDD09 Black Blue Red
OWC's In-line Digital Thermal Sensor cable enables installation of a third-party SATA drive in compatible iMac models while preserving correct system fan control and Apple's diagnostic compatibility. This plug-and-play hardware sensor replaces the iMac's original drive with up to an 8.0TB hard drive or a fast SSD (or paired with a NewerTech AdaptaDrive) to increase storage capacity or data speed without software hacks. The kit includes the sensor cable, suction cups for outer glass removal, Torx T8S and T10S drivers, a pry tool and a microfiber cleaning cloth. Before attempting installation, watch the OWC install video for your iMac model to assess the complexity; OWC offers professional installation service if you are not confident performing the upgrade yourself.
The In-line Digital Thermal Sensor is a hardware solution that maintains the iMac’s system fan behavior and retains compatibility with Apple diagnostics, eliminating the need for software modifications. It supports large-capacity drives up to 8.0TB or high-performance SSDs and is supplied as a complete kit with the necessary drivers, pry tool, suction cups and cleaning cloth for the installation process.
Watch the full OWC install video for your specific iMac model before beginning. Power down the iMac and follow the video instructions to remove the outer glass using the supplied suction cups, open the case with the included pry tool, and replace the original drive with your chosen SATA HDD or SSD. Install the In-line Digital Thermal Sensor cable in-line with the replacement drive and reconnect all internal connectors, then reassemble the iMac using the supplied drivers. After reassembly, verify fan behavior and run Apple diagnostics to confirm proper operation.
Only perform this upgrade if you are comfortable following the full OWC install video for your iMac model. If unsure, use OWC's professional upgrade service. Always back up data before replacing a drive and handle internal components on an anti-static surface.
