Product information

Description

The Panasonic LUMIX S5II is a hybrid mirrorless camera body with a 24.2 MP CMOS sensor and maximum output equivalent to 12000 x 8000 pixels in High Resolution mode. It is the first LUMIX model to adopt Phase Detection Autofocus with 779 AF points, supports full-sensor "open gate" recording for flexible framing across aspect ratios, and includes Active I.S. stabilization plus in-camera Real Time LUTs. The camera is designed to handle stills and video workflows, offering burst shooting at up to 30 fps (electronic shutter), 6K/4K video, extended recording through optimized heat management, and a High Resolution mode that combines multiple shifted exposures into a 96-megapixel equivalent image.

Advantages

Phase Detection Autofocus with 779 points provides fast and accurate focusing in complex, backlit, or low-light scenes. Active I.S. technology improves stabilization for handheld walking shots and reduces blur by compensating horizontal, vertical and rotational shake. Full-sensor open-gate recording and customizable frame markers allow capturing for multiple aspect ratios without losing sensor data. Real Time LUTs can be applied in-camera for both photo and video to preview and reduce time spent in post-production. High readout speed reduces rolling shutter and enables 30 fps AFC burst shooting at full resolution, while optimized heat dissipation supports prolonged recording at 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K 60p/50p.

Suitable for

  • Hybrid photo and video creators who need single-body workflows
  • Event and action photographers requiring fast autofocus and high burst rates
  • Content producers preparing deliverables in multiple aspect ratios (social, cinema, photography)
  • Handheld shooters who benefit from advanced image stabilization
  • High-resolution stills shooters using multi-shot High Resolution mode

Key specifications

  • Sensor: 24.2 MP CMOS
  • High Resolution output: up to 12000 x 8000 px (96 MP equivalent, multi-shot)
  • Autofocus: Phase Detection AF, 779 AF points
  • Shutter: electronic up to 1/16000 s
  • ISO sensitivity: up to 204800
  • Video: 6K/4K recording, 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K up to 60p/50p
  • Burst: AFC electronic shutter up to 30 fps at 24.2 MP
  • Stabilization: Active I.S. (horizontal, vertical, rotational compensation)
  • Display: 3-inch touchscreen
  • Heat management: optimized dissipation for extended recording times

How to use

Attach a compatible L-mount lens to the MILC body, power on the camera, and choose the desired shooting mode (photo, video or High Resolution). For moving subjects, enable Phase Detection AF and AFC burst to maintain focus while shooting at up to 30 fps. To capture multiple aspect ratios, use the full-sensor open-gate mode and set frame markers in the menu. Apply a Real Time LUT from the internal library or load a custom LUT to preview the look directly on the display before recording. For High Resolution stills, select the multi-shot High Resolution mode — the camera will capture eight sensor-shifted frames and combine them into one high-resolution image.

Usage recommendations

When shooting handheld or walking sequences, enable Active I.S. and stabilize your stance for best results. For long recording sessions at high frame rates or bit depths, monitor camera temperature and use the camera within the recommended ambient range to maintain unlimited recording capability. Use High Resolution mode with a tripod where possible to ensure maximum detail and avoid subject movement between frames.
