The Panasonic PM-U25-C3 is a compact U-type photoelectric fork sensor designed for reliable non-contact detection in automation environments. Operating from 5 to 24 V DC, this fork sensor offers selectable light-on and dark-on switching modes to suit different sensing conditions. Its fork-style construction provides a fixed sensing gap for precise detection of small objects, edges, labels and transparent materials on conveyors, assembly lines and packaging equipment.
The sensor delivers stable detection performance with a compact footprint suitable for tight spaces. Selectable light/dark switching increases application flexibility without requiring additional wiring changes. Low-voltage DC operation simplifies integration with common control systems, while the fork geometry ensures repeatable alignment and quick installation. The design minimizes false triggers from ambient light and allows detection of a wide range of materials, including thin or reflective targets.
Install the fork sensor so the target passes through the sensing gap perpendicular to the emitter and receiver faces. Connect the sensor to a compatible 5–24 V DC supply and wire the switching output to the control input of your PLC, relay or other logic device following manufacturer wiring conventions. Select the appropriate switching mode (light-on or dark-on) according to whether detection should occur when the beam is received or interrupted. Adjust position and secure the sensor to achieve repeatable detection of the intended target size and material.
For stable performance, avoid direct exposure of the sensing gap to strong ambient light sources and ensure the target fully passes through the fork during sensing. Use proper cable routing and strain relief to prevent mechanical stress on connections, and verify switching polarity and supply voltage before applying power.
